This year marked the first time that Holocaust memorial day was expanded to honour the memory of all victims of genocide. On the evening of Wednesday, January 27th saw landmarks across Britain aglow with purple light as a tribute to those who lost their lives in genocide.

The UK-specific Holocaust memorial day has been taking place since 2001,  with this years theme being ‘a light in the darkness’, where mourners were advised to light a candle in their windows due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis said that the lessons of the holocaust had not been learned.
