Car museums from around the world are available to view from the comfort and safety of your home. Here are some of our favourites.
Henry Ford Museum
This is more than just a car museum; with its collection of planes, trains, and automobiles, it tells a story of America through the lens of transportation. One of its most important exhibits is the bus in which Rosa Parks made history in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, when she refused to give up her seat to a white person. This act and the ensuing bus boycott in the Yellowhammer State’s capital would lead to the desegregation of public transport in America; another key milestone in the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s. The museum also houses the Sunshine Special that became the first purpose-built presidential limousine.
Honda Collection Hall
Honda’s famous ASIMO robot is among the exhibits at this museum in Motegi in Japan. It is one of over 300 products that range from cars and motorcycles to power products and racers. This virtual tour gives a 360-degree view into every corner of the Japanese firm’s collection, and allows you to take an in-depth look at Honda’s history and see what it means by “the power of dreams.”
With nine levels and 16,500m2 to explore, this should keep you busy for hours! More than a century of the brand’s history is here with over 160 vehicles and 1,500 exhibits to view. Divided up chronologically, the story begins in 1886 with what many consider the world’s first car, the ‘Benz
Patent Motorwagen’. The museum also showcases the German firm’s motorsport heritage from the ‘Silver Arrows’ of the 30s to the F1 and Le Mans racers of today.
Over 80 vehicles are on display from the early 356 to the legendary 911. Learn about the life of the founder Ferdinand Porsche, and explore the collection of classic Porsches over the years. Also on display are some of the firm’s concept cars; these include some unique builds that you might not have known about! And what would Porsche be without its motorsport heritage? This has made the Stuttgart firm world famous and all the
history is on display here.
Museums on Google Street View
Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren museums are all available to explore on Google Street View. In Ferrari’s case it has two museums, one in Maranello and one in Modena. One great thing about all of these is that you can also explore the surrounding area and the neighbouring towns; Woking in McLaren’s case.
