St Barts Choir set to perform Verdi’s Requiem with the Philharmonia Orchestra on May 28th

Barts Choir is excited to bring to life Verdi’s Requiem on the 28 May 2019 at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra, by celebrating this incredible work that is well-known for its musical intensity and has been featured in many film and TV soundtracks.

Verdi’s Requiem is one of the great masterpieces of Western music and a core piece of the choral repertoire, whose power to move remains undiminished.

Despite being initially described as an ‘opera in church clothing’ and dividing the critics, it quickly established its place on the concert programme.

From the hushed opening to the terrifying cries of the ‘Dies Irae’ (which, we warn you now, may make you jump in your seat throughout the work) until the final plea for deliverance, Verdi grips and enthrals us.

The Philharmonia Orchestra needs no introduction, except to say it remains one of the finest orchestras in the world.

We also have some highly regarded and sought after soloists joining us in this performance. Watch an excerpt of their talents, linked below:

Anna Patalong – Soprano

Marta Fontanals-Simmons – Mezzo Soprano

David Butt Philip – Tenor

Ashley Riches – Baritone

And of course we are all beautifully brought together by our Principal Conductor, Ivor Setterfield, and his insightful direction.

Tickets are £35, £29, £23 & £17. Concessions are available on booking via the Southbank Centre website, or on 020 3879 9555 (booking fees apply).

Every year Barts Choir nominates a health or medical charity to promote fundraising and awareness. In 2019 they chose the Inner City Centre, a London charity that supports affordable access to psychotherapy to help those in need of achieving better mental health. A proportion of the profits we make from our concerts go towards their cause.
