Kindness leads to success at Papplewick School

Kindness leads to success at Papplewick School

“Kindness is at the very heart of our school,” says Tom Bunbury, Headmaster of Papplewick School, a boys’ preparatory school in Ascot, Berkshire. “It’s even more important than exam results.”  Indeed the most coveted prize on Speech Day goes to the pupil who has shown the greatest enthusiasm for life, contribution to the community and “above all, kindness to others.”

The school believes that kindness leads to happiness, which in turn leads to success, and this school for around 210 boys, set in 15 acres of land opposite Ascot Racecourse, is testament to that belief. Pupils at Papplewick regularly win scholarships to top senior schools; so far this year there have been twelve awards to schools such as Eton, Harrow and Charterhouse. A plethora of extra-curricular activities includes a hugely popular Herpetology Club, where boys own, look after and study bearded dragons, corn snakes and chameleons. There is a huge range of sports options on offer and the school boasts a covered pool, large sports hall, floodlit astroturf, music school, and new year 8 boarding house.

Papplewick, offers day, weekly and full boarding for boys aged six to thirteen, running daily transport services to and from Chiswick, Brook Green and the Gloucester Road area. These services are popular with families seeking a rural preparatory school that can offer boys more space for sports and other activities.

This unique combination of kindness, activity and academic success has earned the school The Tatler Good Schools Guide award for Prep School of the Year 2019.
