Churchill Season at Parliament starts this Saturday

As the critically acclaimed release of ‘Darkest Hour’ hits UK cinema screens nationwide, the Houses of Parliament will be running ‘A Churchill Season’ every Saturday between 13th January and 17th February.

Starring Gary Oldman as Sir Winston Churchill, ‘Darkest Hour’ is a British biographical film that casts light on the Prime Minister’s early days as leader of the country. The film is directed by Joe Wright and also stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James, and Ben Mendolhson.

The ‘Churchill Season’ events highlight Churchill’s’ life and career in the House of Commons, and will give visitors an insight into one of the most formative periods in British history. On Friday 26th January, there will also be a ‘Churchill Tour Experience’ that will provide visitors with the opportunity to view original documents, correspondence and photographs pertaining to Churchill’s life in the Commons.

The Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames MP, grandson of Sir Winston, welcomed the Houses of Parliament’s introduction of the ‘Churchill Season’:

“I’m delighted that Parliament is to celebrate the life of Sir Winston Churchill and his 64 years as a Member of Parliament. These events coincide with the release of the remarkable new film on Sir Winston, Darkest Hour. It is my hope that visitors will enjoy the chance to learn more of Sir Winston’s extraordinary Parliamentary career and his legacy, and further, will go away with a clearer understanding of this truly momentous period in the history of our country.”
