The Churchill Arms is, without doubt, one of the best and most well known pubs in London. It’s hard to find a warmer welcome than Gerry O’Brien and the team that run this popular public house. Gerry has been managing the Churchill Arms for 26 years and in those years has brought colour and character to the Kensington Church Street hostelry.
The Pub has won London in Bloom two years in a row and from spring it is easy to see why – the flowers and baskets literally tumble off the outside of the building. In winter the flowers are replaced with Christmas trees and last year there were 48 decorating its exterior.
The food on offer is Thai in the rear conservatory part of the Pub but you can also enjoy a selection of English classics such as fish and chips or bangers and mash and the Sunday roasts are also very popular. Events are the speciality here – ‘Churchill Night’ (30th Nov) is a must as the Pub is literally transformed into a museum and posters from the Cabinet War Rooms are put up in the windows and Churchill’s favorite Champagne: Pol Roger is served.
The Chelsea Pensioners are invited along and last year Tony Iverson, 91 year ex-RAF pilot came to give a talk on the war and the RAF museum. The patron saint days are also events that should not be missed. As the owner is Irish the celebrations for St Patrick’s Day are the most eventful in London.
This is one London pub you will want to come back to again and again.
